Netball & Hockey Pre-Season Festival

Girls’ Netball 1st VII. 2nd VII, Junior A & B Pre-Season Festival

On Saturday we welcomed Akeley Wood, Ashfold, Beachborough, Pinewood, St Hugh's and Thornton to our pre-season netball festival, which involved our 1st and 2nd Teams and our Junior A and B Teams.  This provided a great opportunity for all schools to test out their squads ready for the season ahead.  The standard of netball was very high across all age groups with some very competitive score lines, therefore, we should have a very competitive fixture circuit to look forward to this term.  Thank you to all schools that participated in this event.

Boys’ Hockey 1st VII & Colts A Pre-Season Festival

On Saturday morning we welcomed Ashfold School, Beachborough School, Bedford School, Cheltenham College, Pinewood School, St Hugh’s School and The Downs, Wraxall to our annual U13 and U11 pre-season hockey festival.

The 1st team beat Beachborough 1-0 in the first game with a goal from a short corner with the last play of the match. In the second game the boys lost a very close game against Cheltenham College 0-1 and then beat The Downs, Wraxall 2-1. This meant they ended up second in the group and went into the 3rd/4th playoff game against Bedford School. The boys definitely saved the best until last and beat Bedford 3-1 ending the morning in 3rd place.

The Colts A also had a very successful morning. They started the off with a 3-0 win against Ashfold before further victories against WHS B team 3-0 and Bedford 3-0. They lost to a good Cheltenham side 0-2 which meant they ended up 2nd in a group and played a final game against 1st place. This required a second game against Cheltenham. It was a great match but Cheltenham came out on top winning 3-1. The Colts A team finished the morning as runners-up.

The Colts B team were a late entry into the tournament as a school pulled out. It was always going to be a tough morning playing A teams but the boys played brilliantly and never gave up. They beat Ashfold 2-1, drew with Bedford 1-1 and lost to WHS A 0-3 and Cheltenham 0-4. They ended up 4th in the group.

It was a hugely successful morning and thank you to everyone who was involved in making it run so smoothly.
