Reaching the Plate Final

The 1st VII squad had a fantastic day at the IAPS U13 Regional Hockey Tournament on Friday 8th February but sadly did not do quite enough to qualify for the Nationals later this month.

Things got off to a tough start when the squad lost D Eliot to a nasty knee injury in a pre-tournament run through and then on the day lost A Saunders to illness.

Despite these setbacks the boys played well with a 3-0 win over Beacon in their first match, before suffering a 4-0 loss to St. Andrews (who finished second). The boys played some impressive fast attacking hockey to draw 1-1 with Foremarke Hall before putting in their best performance of the day in a 1-0 win over hosts Cheltenham. Sadly, the 1-0 win was not enough to get through to the cup competition as Cheltenham just pipped us to the post on goal difference by one goal.

In the Plate competition, the team beat The Elms 5-1 with a fine attacking display and then had a very convincing win over Eagle House 4-0. In the Plate Final, WHS looked tired against a good Clifton team and sadly lost 4-1 against a strong side.

In what was a fantastic day, where each boy represented WHS admirably, the boys should be proud of how they played in some awful conditions.
