Riding for WHS at the NSEA Eventer Championships

With qualifiers held all over the Country over the last 8 months, 9 Winchester House riders were delighted to qualify for the NSEA Eventer Championships to be held at the All England Jumping Course at Hickstead over half term.

T Mayo was first to set off on Rodney in a 70 m class. With a lovely clear, he held on in the placings until the final rider knocked him out of the rosettes by less than a second, giving him 9th place.

The team of M McGowan, J Von Furstenberg, S Kay and H Dawes were next to go in the team event. With a super round from M McGowan followed by 3 clears from J Von Furstenburg, S Kay and H Dawes the team waited to see if they were placed. They couldn’t believe it when the results came out placing them 4th. Competing against junior and senior schools from around the UK this was an incredible achievement.

R Close-Smith, T Kay, H Chapman and S Howard were next to go in the 80cm team event. There were very few clear rounds in a tricky and technical course and the team hung on in the placings until the last few schools competed.

In sweltering heat, the Winchester House competitors should be very proud of themselves, having reached the Championship finals at this highly competitive level.   They were well supported by their families who had travelled a great distance to support the school.

At Bury Farm Grass Roots Show Jumping Qualifier,  C Wilson came 3rd in the 50cm and I Wilson picked 3rd in the 60cm, qualifying for the regional Final.

A couple of days later at the Wellingborough Show Jumping Qualifier at Keysoe, I Wilson was placed 1st in the  65cm, and although C Wilson had a clear round, she was too slow for a placing.

T Kay continued with her British Eventing run of double clears at BE90 on Hunter. This third successive clear means that she is now eligible to compete at BE100.  T Kay also took youngster LaLa round the smaller BE80 course and was pleased with her performance as it was her first time at such a big event.

Well done to such a committed group of riders!
