Three Saints players visit Winchester House School

It was lovely to welcome Dylan Hartley, Dan Biggar and Jamie Gibson to Winchester House on Friday 12th October

The three Northampton Saints rugby players came to WHS to run coaching sessions with all boys in Years 5-8. The boys enjoyed an hour of intensive training with each player and it was lovely to see their enthusiasm.

The players who attended were:

  • Dylan Hartley - English captain and England rugby union player who plays at hooker for England and Northampton Saints
  • Dan Biggar – British and Irish Lion, Welsh international rugby union outside-half who plays club rugby for the Northampton Saints
  • Jamie Gibson – England , England Saxons squad and flanker for the Aviva Premiership side Northampton Saints

The training was followed by a Q&A session in the Sports Hall. The day was organised to raise money for Rob Horne, former Wallaby and Saints player who suffered a career-ending injury whilst playing for Northampton Saints last year resulting in complete paralysis of his right arm. During the Q&A session, the players talked about Rob Horne and the money they were raising to support him.

The children were then allowed to ask questions and the boys and girls asked many interesting questions including whether Dan Biggar preferred playing with Dylan Hartley or against him! Finally, they all queued up to get their autographs as a memento of a very special afternoon.

A huge thank you to Dylan, Dan and Jamie for coming.

Sam Stoop, Director of Sport at Winchester House says: “This really was an amazing opportunity for the boys and was a very special occasion allowing us as rugby players and supporters to help this worthy cause.”
