Victorious start for Junior A Hockey Team

It has been an incredible 3 weeks for the Junior A's hockey team which culminated in them qualifying for the IAPs National Tournament at Rugby School at the end of November.

They started the term with the Bloxham School Prep School tournament where they finished second behind a very good Chesham Prep team. They then went on to the Stowe School Prep School tournament which they won, winning every game.

Two days later they then played in the St. Edwards Prep School tournament and despite a difficult start they finished the day well and went onto win the Plate Competition.

They however saved the best until last when they finished second at the Regional IAPs tournament, not losing a game all day and so qualified for the Nationals at Rugby School in November.  They won their group with good wins over Wimbledon High, Newlands Prep and Piper’s Corner. In the knockout stages they comfortably beat St Hugh's 3-0 before beating Lambrook 1-0 in a cracking game. In the final against Fairfield the girls took the lead but with about 90 seconds to go we were caught on the break and Fairfield scored an equaliser. It was Fairfield who marshalled the art of penalties better and they won 2-1 to take home the gold medals.

It was a great day and the girls should be proud with how they played and qualifying for the Nationals in no small feat, some for the second year running. It was also a huge team effort with 7 of the 8 outfield players getting themselves onto the score sheet.

Well done to the following girls: J Woodcock (C), Ce Wilson, L Southan, T Douglas, C Wakeford, A Fagan, M White, F McGowan, F Coombs and F Peppiatt.
