Rats

Organising, rehearsing and bringing together nearly 100 children from Year 3 & 4 was the brain-child of Mrs. Lynas and was executed with energy and vibrancy by Miss Wilson and Mrs. Leftley.

After just six weeks of rehearsals, the whole of Year 3 & 4, came together to perform ‘Rats!’.  Sam Rees, took on the role of the Mayor, who led the troubled townsfolk of Hamelin into various situations of strife and discontent, brought about by his unhealthy appetite for ‘sticky cakes all covered in goo.”   Nicholas Watkins played the Piper and caused a bundle of laughs with his dry humour. The lead Rats were brilliantly played by Millie Purton, William Stallibrass and Michael Keating. Never have raspberries been blown with such relish. Their presence on stage was truly inspiring, managing to chastise a great number of rats from both Year 3 & 4 into a frenzy of battle cries and giving demonstrations of their slovenly ways to a very appreciative audience. After the interval, the rest of Year 3, had their debut on stage, starring as the children of Hamelin . They performed various acrobatic tricks, danced, juggled and were led away by the Pied Piper, only to be reunited during the final scene after the Piper had been paid his dues by the Mayor.

Praise must go to the choir, led by Annie Chatfield and Matt Philips. Their singing throughout was a very high standard culminating in a well punctuated crescendo and it really led to the feel good factor of the show. Toby Till ’s backdrop set the scene beautifully and Miss Wond’s contributions to the dances ensured that the whole show really was a fantastic success.
