The Bateman's Ball

The Bateman’s Ball was held on Saturday 15th March to raise money for the Bateman’s Trust which supports an orphanage for Anglo-Indian children in Chennai.   It was superbly organised by eight members of year 7.   The evening included live music played by various school bands and ended with a show-stopping raffle.

The prizes included items signed by Mike Catt, Shirley Robertson, Sean Geraghty, the Surrey cricket team and Tim Henman.

Over 100 children in years 5-8 attended, raising more than £600 in total.

On May 6th Alex Thompson, Director of St. George's orphanage in India, came to visit the school and children and spoke about the work St George's does.

The total amount raised by the children was £642, which was enough to pay for a PE teacher and PE equipment for a year.  This will enable the children at the orphanage to have weekly games lessons and allow football, hockey and cricket teams to be created and arrange local fixtures.  Alex then helped children dress up in Indian clothes.
