Winchester House prep school, on the borders of Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, offers day and boarding options for girls and boys and welcomes equally boarders and day children.
Starting from Year 3 (ages 7-8), boarding can be occasional, weekly and enhanced weekly boarding.
Occasional boarding involves
trial boarding followed by staying at the school on a regular night or nights each week. From Year 6 this must be for at least two nights, preferably consecutive. This has proved very popular and is a highly successful lead into weekly boarding. Occasional boarding stops in the Summer Term of Year 7.
Weekly boarding means the children stay at school from Monday until the end of school on Saturday. They may return to school on Sunday evening or Monday morning.
Enhanced weekly boarding enables children to take advantage of the
Opt-in weekends, a regular feature of each term. A candlelit but relaxed dinner is served on Saturday evening and on Sunday it’s breakfast in pyjamas, followed by a family chapel service and then a trip. Destinations include Thorpe Park, Rutland Water (for water sports) and the SNO!zone in Milton Keynes.
The school is a firm believer in the huge value and benefits of boarding and we encourage as many children as possible to experience boarding, particularly as preparation for their senior schools where many will be full boarders.
In reality we find boarding sells itself; children at Winchester House need little encouragement to board.
