Learn to Lead Programme at Winchester House.
|
|
Learn-to-Lead is an all-inclusive programme that teaches leadership and team-building from the age of seven. Many aspects of school routine have been adjusted to enable children in the Upper School to exercise greater responsibility for themselves and their peers. Practical leadership tasks are presented to the pupils as part of their curriculum and new facilities, such as a low-ropes course, have been installed to enrich the children's experience.
The house system plays an important role here. House prefects are now appointed in addition to school prefects; Years 5-8 have lunch in houses and all Upper School year groups are represented on The School Council. These developments all challenge the children to take responsibility for their school.
Since 2010, Year 8 children have been responsible for organising and hosting an inter-schools public speaking competition, held, appropriately, in the Forum.
The Learn to Lead programme, under the stewardship of Mr Warren Silman (M.L.A), also involves weekend challenges throughout the year including expeditions each June, for Years 5, 6 and 7 to wild and remote parts of the U.K. Over the years Winchester House has formed close links with high quality outdoor education providers to enable pupils to learn outside the classroom in challenging outdoor environments. Our latest provider for expeditions in 2012 is the Bushcraft Company.
A unique programme for prep school children, Winchester House is proud to be the first to place this vital area of learning, development and confidence building at the heart of its curriculum.
