Success at the UKMT’s Intermediate Maths Challenge

Success at the UKMT’s Intermediate Maths Challenge, February 2011

This year 8 set 1, plus one person from 7 set 1, sat the UKMT’s Intermediate Maths Challenge. This is a challenge particularly aimed for children in years 9 to 11 , so any success in Year 8 [or in Year 7] is worth a hearty pat on the back.

The mean score nationally was 41.6, and eight of the thirteen WHS students who took the challenge scored higher than that.  The following will be awarded Bronze certificates [when they arrive]; O. Woodward [who scored 49], W Stallibrass [50], and H Behrens [56].  The following will receive Silver certificates; H Fordham [65], H Campbell [71] and J Maclure [77].  J Maclure also did well enough to be entered for the next round, known as the Grey Kangaroo, which he will sit at school on March 17th.  Our top scorer this year goes to a Year 7 pupil, O Worrall.  He scored a fantastic 84 points, and not only will he receive a Gold certificate, but he is also entered for the Grey Kangaroo. His mark is an excellent achievement for someone in Year 7 and deserves both praise and recognition.

Well done to all who took part in this demanding challenge.
