Poetry Recitation and Public Speaking Evening
As ever, it was a great pleasure to welcome parents to the final of the annual public speaking and poetry competition which took place this year on Februrary 3rd. The standard seems to get steadily higher, so we were especially grateful to our judge, Louise Cramp, Head of English at Northampton Girls High School for making the many tricky decisions about who had to be picked as this year’s winner in each category.
Every child in years 4, 6 and 7 had learned a poem over the Christmas holidays and there were many ambitious and charismatic performances throughout the school whereas those in year 8 had worked on prepared and unprepared speeches. After much anxious deliberation, the final winners were:
Year 4:
C. Maclure: I’ve Got a Pair of Magic Shoes by Brian Moses
Year 6:
V. Brooke: Horace by Monty Python
Year 7:
J. Firoozan: St Crispian’s Day Speech from Henry V by William Shakespeare
Year 8 Speeches:

I. Beatty:

Unprepared: |
M. Purton:

Congratulations also to Year 3 and Year 5 for their triumphant choral speaking performances of Matilda by Hilaire Belloc and Who Won? The Hare and the Tortoise Race by Adrian Mitchell. The children had worked really hard as a team and did a grand job of entertaining the audience.
Many congratulations to all concerned and many thanks, again, to our judge, Louise Cramp.
