The Salter's Festival of Chemistry
A team of keen and intrepid Lunar Ticks set off for Oxford University this week to take part in the Salter’s Festival of Chemistry. This is a competition that brings together schools from all over to test their chemical skills and knowledge.
The day started with a CSI style challenge and the teams had to sort their anions from their cations and work out who the culprit was. Team captain H Campbell lead from the front and got the team working efficiently. The rainbow challenge saw us finish third and then the finale was to produce the longest strand of nylon. We managed a creditable 15 feet but the winning strand reached 25 feet.
The demonstration lecture showed us some brilliant Science fun with an explanation of the Chemistry and Physics involved. We didn’t win but were praised for our team work and it was a great fun day that enabled the children to work in a real university research laboratory.
