Summer Extravanganza 2007
Summer Extravaganza 2007
On Tuesday 3rd July the Hippos held an afternoon of fun and games for the children in the Upper School, as part of the end of year festivities. We should have known better than to choose a “Summertime” theme for the event as the weather showed us again how topsy-turvy it has been this year – the glorious sunshine we enjoyed at the Advent Fayre turning into heavy downpours for the Summer Extravaganza.
Inevitably we had to cancel some of the planned activities, but happily the children’s spirits are never dampened by mere weather, and they were still able to raise the roof of the Sports Hall as they enjoyed sumo wrestling,
eating donuts on a string, space hopper racing, shooting baskets, cricket bowling and leaping about on the bouncy castles. Biscuit decorating and nail painting offered a calmer choice of activity, whilst the rocket stompers braved the elements outside. Mr Silman kindly improvised a range of indoor team building games in place of the planned volleyball matches. We were also fortunate to have the services of Madame Jazzie, clairvoyant extraordinaire, who was still telling fortunes for those patient enough to wait, long after everyone else had gone home. The crazy costumes worn in support of the school’s charity “OTT Day” provided further colour and sparkle to the event.
Sincere thanks to all the staff and parents who helped to organise and run the Extravaganza, and who cleaned up afterwards.
