Structure of the Day

Karate

Karate teaches self discipline and respect for others, as well as being able to defend yourself if needs be. However, it is always stressed that it is better to avoid confrontation in the first place.

Karate training takes place on Tuesday lunchtimes between 12.35 and 1.15 for years 3 and 4 and between 1.30 and 2.15 for years 5 to 8. We train in Shotokan Karate, and are linked to CESKA, the Central England Shotokan Karate Association through our coach Sensei Peter Calver.

Pupils, if they wish, are prepared for gradings, moving through the different coloured belts. These take place every three months. As the student progresses, these gradings become less frequent due to the time that we have to train and the increased material that has to be learned. However, students are always very welcome to train at the out of school clubs if they wish to make greater progress.
