Organisation of the day

On arrival at school the children will find various free play activities
with some directed tasks set up alongside.  We encourage children to initiate their own play and to interact with the other children.  They are then directed to specific activities.

The classroom is a large open plan building that is divided into two areas. The carpeted area is used for role play, small and large activities and has a number and language table. The vinyl-covered area accommodates the messy activities such as sand and water play, modelling, painting and sticking.

Individual development is constantly assessed and 'smiley faces' are given for achievement, effort or being kind and helpful.

At some stage during the session we all gather together for a chat, share a story, or poem etc.  Twice a week a teacher from the Music Department comes to sing and play instruments with the children, in the Nursery.

The Sports Hall is used for music and movement, gym and dance and we join with the rest of the Pre-Prep once a week for an Assembly, and twice a term, we join with the Upper School for a whole school Assembly.

There is a topic for the term and this offers the opportunity for children to develop a broad range of concepts and attitudes in all curriculum areas within a relevant context.

The children have access to a computer and play number and language games.  We use cassettes or rhymes, poem and stories and games that develop listening skills.
