Some key points for parents starting their WHS career!!
1. Wednesday afternoons are games and activity afternoons. Many of the children will be involved with matches - these are advertised in the calendar and you will be given a fixture list card as well. Parents are always welcome to attend 'home' and 'away' matches. Tea is served afterwards in the Hippo if it is a 'home' match and just 'follow the crowd' for the 'away' matches!
2. Saturday school is compulsory for all children in Years 4 - 8. The day starts at the normal time of 8.30am and finishes at 12.50pm. Children are given lunch if involved with a match in the afternoon. If your child is playing in an away match the pick up time is stated at the bottom of the team list. These will be found on the sports page of this website. These are put onto the site the day before a match i.e. on a Tuesday or Friday.
3. Sports kit is washed at school during term time. This applies to the Upper School only.
4. Delivering Upper School children to school in the morning: Year 3 - parents may accompany children to their classroom in the morning.
Year 4 - children are encouraged to find their own way in the mornings.
Year 5-8 - by this stage they can't wait to say goodbye!
In the evening children generally appear from 'under the arch' at the top of the drive.
A one-way system operates from the bottom of the drive to exiting at the top gate. Please do not attempt to exit via the bottom gate during drop off or pick up times. You won't stand much chance anyhow!
Please be considerate when parking on the drive.
If you are new to the area and would like to know which other WHS families are in your vicinity in order to share lifts contact the school office or your Form Rep (see below) and they will help if possible.
There is a separate Pre-Prep car park adjacent to the Pre-Prep building.
5. A Newsletter is produced approximately every three weeks. This contains important information and detail about forthcoming events and will highlight achievements by the children. There are often forms to fill in enclosed with this mailing. It is important to return these to the relevant people at the school. If for some reason it is unclear who to send the form to, address it to the School Office (Upper School or Pre-Prep, whichever is relevant to you) and we will ensure it reaches the correct person. These Newsletters can be found on the newsletter section of this website.
6. In an emergency a senior member of staff can always be contacted on the 'Duty Phone' otherwise known as 'Number One' - 07759 938369. This number can be found on the inside cover of the calendar.
7. Meeting the staff - there are several opportunities during the year for meeting staff.
8. Form Representatives - there are two per year and they organise social occasions out of school such as picnics, bike rides, lunches and breakfasts, all of which give parents the opportunity to socialise and feel included. Form Reps are an integral part of the Friends of Winchester House. You should have been contacted by one of them before your child starts at the school.
9. If you are a parent of a boarder with a query - please contact any of the boarding team and they will help you. Telephone numbers for relevant boarding staff can be found in the calendar. A huge amount of information about boarding can be found in the Boarding A-Z in the boarding section of this website.
