Welcome to the Winchester House Association

This new name has taken the place of the Old Boy’s and Old Girl’s (OBOG) society as it seemed to be a more succinct name.

The New Chairman, Mr Chris Wilson.

While Richard Speight is President of the society, his retirement to Devon has made it very difficult for him to deal with the day to day running of the society and the functions that it hopes to put on each year.

Many friendships made at Winchester House last a lifetime. There is a remarkable loyalty among those who have been to the school. Each year we welcome children of former pupils, and new members of staff are always impressed by the frequency with which former pupils return to the school.

The matches against the school for netball, rounders, hockey and cricket happen each year and revolve around the year group that has just left as well as any siblings of the team.

The society also tries to put on a function every year for association members to meet up and have a drink. At the moment, we are working on a two year cyclical rotor, with one year the school playing host to a dinner at the end of the Michaelmas term and the Lansdowne club in London hosting a drinks event at around the same time on the other year.

In order to provide a port of contact more locally to the school, I have the honour of chairing the society, and endeavouring, along with many other staff behind the scenes at Winchester House, to continue the great tradition that Richard Speight, and more latterly, Rupert Scott, have created over the last thirty or more years.

To give you a little detail as to who I am, my name is Christopher Wilson (1984 – 1990). I have taught at the school for 7 years, where I run the senior end of the boy’s house, teach maths and help out extensively on the sports field. I live on site in what was once dorm 15 within the boy’s house and try to give the pupils the same opportunities that I got.

I hope that over the coming months and years we will be able to see as many of you as possible at one of our functions.

If there is anything you would like to know about what we are doing, what is going on in the school, or indeed if you want to get involved with the association, please address any e-mails or letters to the school care of either myself , the marketing director Mr Duncan Gray or our statistician behind the scenes Mr Richard Murdin.

If you are an old boy or girl and have any information, news or photographs that you would like to tell us about, (including a change of address) please email whacontact or contact any of the above on 01280 702483. This information may well then be published in the next magazine and/or on this page.
