RICHARD SPEIGHT

Richard Speight Death Announcement

It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of Richard Speight, former headmaster of Winchester House on Wednesday 12th February. Richard was a pupil at Winchester House from 1947 to 1950, returning to School in the summer of 1960 as a ‘gapper’ before joining the staff permanently in 1961. In 1972, Richard was appointed joint Assistant Headmaster and three years later became Headmaster. During his headship, Richard’s leadership skills, forward thinking approach, way with children and enthusiasm for life saw the introduction of girls, the building of Drayton House, the creation of Pre-Prep and growth of pupil numbers. Richard retired in 1997 having touched so many lives, and took on the role of Chairman of the Winchester House Association, a position he held until his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with Richard’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed and always remembered with great affection by the whole Winchester House community.

Funeral and memorial details will follow in due course. If you would like to send a letter of sympathy to the family please send them addressed to Emma Goldsmith.
