Geography

Pupils engaged in a geography lesson at Winchester House, exploring maps and learning about the world around them

Geography at Winchester House aims to inspire pupils with a love for the world around them, as well as developing an understanding of the world we live in, the physical processes that operate, how our interaction can affect the world and how we are able to deal with the consequences of these interactions.

There is also the need to understand our place in the world. Global Location and geographical skills is taught from EYFS to Year 4 through the Creative Curriculum, with pupils learning about their local area as well as core geographical skills. Years 5 to 8 build on these skills within their Geography lessons as well as learning in more depth about the world and its functions.

In Geography we develop:

  • Geographical enquiry
  • Global Location knowledge
  • Diversity
  • Hazards and their impacts on people, environment and economy
  • Development
