Learning Support

All children at Winchester House School work within mainstream classes with access to a wide-ranging curriculum.

Quality First Teaching is our priority and classwork in all subject areas is differentiated for all levels of ability within an inclusive learning environment. If required, children are given additional support, either in small groups or individually by subject or specialist support teachers. Extra support occurs in class or during specific support sessions. Additional support is provided in small groups or one-to-one, depending on need, with as many support sessions as possible scheduled so that pupils avoid missing lessons.

Children are assessed using standardised tests before and on entry to the school and from Year 3 upwards. This data is used to aid with senior school choice decisions, learning strategies and understanding of potential. Learning Support staff work closely with Class Teachers/Tutors and parents to ensure that individual pupil needs are met and are always available to meet and discuss progress with parents.
