VE Day Celebration

At 12 noon, the entire school paused to observe the national two-minute silence in a moment of collective remembrance.
Pupils and staff then gathered on the Third Form Lawn for a whole School picnic, joined by members of the Dementia Friendly Choir.
The event began with a heartfelt welcome from our Head, Mrs Antonia Lee, who spoke of the importance of remembrance, reflection, and the power of community across generations. Followed by a thoughtful address from Mr Martin, who reflected on the significance of VE Day and the enduring sacrifices made for peace.
The WHS Orchestra gave a moving performance of Jupiter from The Planets by Holst, followed by rousing renditions of I Vow to Thee My Country and Jerusalem, sung by all. A powerful poem shared by a member of the Dementia Friendly Choir, added depth and emotion to the occasion.
The event concluded with the whole School standing together in unity to sing the National Anthem, a fitting end to a celebration filled with reflection, honour, and community spirit.
