HISTORY MADE AT WINCHESTER HOUSE!

WHS U12 Girls Take the Field for Their First Ever Rugby Fixture
A truly historic day unfolded at Winchester House yesterday as our U12 Girls’ Rugby Team took to the field for the first-ever girls’ rugby fixture, facing Northampton School in a thrilling and hard-fought match.
This momentous occasion marked the culmination of two terms of hard work, determination, and passion. Full credit goes to our Year 6 girls, who have been the driving force behind the growth of girls’ rugby at WHS — paving the way for future generations to follow.
From the very first whistle, the WHS girls showed outstanding intent — moving the ball wide, finding space, and playing with flair. Our Captain for the day Martha S, led by example, storming over for a hat-trick of tries in the opening quarter. She was superbly supported by Scarlett S and Jasmine S, both powering through with speed and determination to score fantastic tries in the corner.
The second quarter showcased not only attacking flair but also rock-solid defence.
Jemima T delivered two crunching tackles that lifted the crowd, while Bella H, Clemmie P, and Jess A were electric with the ball in hand.
It was equally inspiring to see our Year 6 players — Flora, Millie, Scarlett, Isadora, Molly, Sophie, and Willow — step up confidently against older Year 7 opponents, carrying the ball courageously and showing true WHS spirit.
A highlight came when Molly M sprinted down the touchline to score a superb try out wide.
One player who lit up the field was Bella H, whose fearless hand-offs and dominant runs drew comparisons to prime Jonah Lomu! Her defensive work rate was unmatched, and she didn’t miss a single tackle all game.
A heartfelt mention also goes to Cadence H, who played every minute with bravery and skill before being forced off following a head knock — we wish her a speedy recovery.
In the final quarter, the WHS girls continued to play expansive, exciting rugby — combining slick offloads, determined defence, and relentless teamwork. When the final whistle blew, the cheers from the crowd said it all: history had been made. The girls knew they had achieved something truly special — they are the trailblazers of girls’ rugby at Winchester House.
A special mention goes to our captain, Martha, whose leadership, sportsmanship, and selflessness stood out — even choosing to rotate off so teammates could enjoy more game time.
A huge thank you also to Miss Pickwick, our resident Premiership Rugby player, for her incredible coaching, enthusiasm, and inspiration throughout the journey.
