Science Centre Trip
Our Year 1 pupils have loved becoming mini scientists in the classroom following their fantastic trip to Science Centre in Oxford.
At the Science Centre, our pupils invent, explore, investigate, being amazed and in awe with everything the Science Centre have to offer. They found out what happens when you add bicarbonate of soda and washing up liquid to citric acid, spotted the differences between Mrs O’Hara and a penguin (there were quite a lot!), how infrared cameras work, how ice crystals are formed, the power of wind and what the inside of our ears look like using a microscope, to name just a few.
Back in the classroom, their first activity was to investigate what happened when they rubbed balloons on their heads. It was quite a hair-raising activity!! They even managed to stick the balloons to their faces, and keep them there, despite all the laughing. Later in the week they were given a selection of equipment and asked to make the lightbulb glow. After a lot of trial and error, they worked brilliantly as teams and were very proud when they discovered different ways to turn on the bulb. It was great to talk about static electricity and circuits after they had completed their investigations.
