Religion and World Views

Religion and World Views | Winchester House School | Northamptonshire

In Religion and World Views at Winchester House ‘Big questions’ are posed to promote enquiry into beliefs, the meaning and purpose of life, the self and issues of right and wrong, commitment and belonging.

Pupils are encouraged to explore their own beliefs (religious or non-religious) in the light of what they learn, enabling them to build their sense of identity and belonging. We actively teach empathy, generosity, compassion and respect for people of different faiths and beliefs.

Religion and World Views  is taught explicitly throughout Key Stages one and two at Winchester House. This may be taught by the class teacher (predominately in EYFS- Year 4) and by a specialist in Years 5 and 6. The curriculum is broad, encompassing the six major world religions and Humanism.

In Years 7 and 8 it is taught during chapel time when, although predominately Christian in nature, the aim is to relate Christian teachings to other religions. For example, when discussing advent in chapel, the children also reflect on the festival of Hanukah and Diwali to show common themes.
